ETRI developing next-generation mobile communications technologies
Loughborough, UK, 29th April 2013 - CommAgility announced today that its AdvancedMC (AMC) modules are being used by South Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) to help develop beyond 4G (B4G) and 5G next-generation mobile telecoms technology. ETRI is using CommAgility's AMC-2C6670 and AMC-2C6678 high performance signal processing modules.
ETRI's B4G Mobile Communications Research Department and Wireless Access System Research Department are both using the CommAgility modules, which are housed in various MicroTCA chassis and MicroTCA carrier hubs (MCH).
B4G will offer a high quality, efficient mobile service that has nearly ten times more radio transmission capacity and energy efficiency than the current 4G standard. Looking further ahead, 5G will have 1000 times the transmission capacity of 4G, enabling mobile operators to cope with the explosive growth in data traffic expected over the next few years.

The AMC-2C6670 provides two Texas Instruments TMS320C6670 DSPs, a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA, and a flexible, fast mix of I/O including Serial RapidIO (SRIO), Gigabit Ethernet and CPRI. The AMC-2C6678 is equipped with two Texas Instruments TMS320C6678 DSPs and a Virtex-6 FPGA, and provides a similar range of I/O. Both modules are well-suited to wireless baseband and test equipment, including LTE and LTE Advanced, as well as other applications that require high processing performance.
