A highly integrated VPX module based on TIís TCI6636 and TMS320C6678 DSP SoCs plus a large Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA.   OpenVPX Systems Specification defines an architecture framework that manages and constrains module and backplane designs, including defining pin outs, and sets interoperability points within VPX while maintaining full compliance with VPX. 3U and 6U formats with a 7-row high speed connector rated up to 6.25 Gbps. Improved implementation of open standards and interoperability The Ruggedized Enhanced Design Implementation (REDI) laid out in VITA 48 describes how to implement layout techniques to better support cooling methodologies on specific board form factors.

The VPX-D16A4 is an extremely high performance ARM, DSP and FPGA based processing module. It is ideal for applications such as software radio, imaging or radar in a range of harsh field deployment environments.

The VPX-D16A4-PCIE variant provides a high speed Gen2 PCI Express (PCIe) interface instead of the standard RapidIO backplane connectivity, making it suitable for deployments where it interfaces with other boards based around Intel processors.

The moduleís main processor is the TCI6638 KeyStone II DSP/ARM SoC. It includes eight C66x+ DSP cores, as well as four ARM Cortexô-A15 cores for higher layer processing. The module also has one TMS320C6678 octal C66x core DSP. All processors are closely coupled via TIís Hyperlink interface and the Ethernet infrastructure of the card. There is also a large Kintex-7 FPGA for additional co-processing.
